RubyI am a stay-at-home wife and mother to four children, two of whom she is currently homeschooling full-time. Our third daughter is a preschooler, so we’re not yet “doing” school but she enjoys a lot of learning activities all the same. Our fourth child, a son, attends the local public school where he is in a regular classroom with a full time 1:1 integration aide.

We are beginning our third year of official home education, though my husband and I firmly believe we have been teaching our kids since they’ve joined us on the earth. We’ll always be helping them learn – and learning from them too!

Two of our children have been diagnosed with disabilities – our oldest daughter with ADHD, and our son with autism and ADHD. Whether the others are neurotypical, or will also be found to be affected, remains to be seen . . .

About Me:

Ruby holds an AEC in gerontology, and worked for 8 years in Canada’s last chronic care facility for war veterans. She has also logged countless hours of service with special needs children and senior citizens, in the local university community, in adult literacy and primary school library work, and through Girl Guides. The last position she held in Girl Guides of Canada was Lones Adviser, helping girls who can’t attend regular meetings stay active in Guiding.

When she is not with her kids or glued to the computer, Ruby enjoys reading speculative fiction and mysteries. Every now and again she likes to cook for the fun of it – not just because it has to get done. She is involved (in a support role, for the moment) with Jukaido-Kan  JuJutsu, and would love to have more time to do cross stitching or pursue  genealogical research.

Ruby has begun to create restored e-book versions of classic children’s literature and textbooks, and has written for the last two years about the practicalities and legalities of homeschooling. She is a staff reviewer at CurrClick, an internet store that supplies e-books and live online classes to homeschooling parents and other educators. She lives in Montreal, Quebec with her merry brood and a clever grey cat that has adopted them all as his own.
