André-Laurendeau Parent Meeting

March 25th, 2008 by Ruby3881

Parents of students from École André-Laurendeau and its temporary host school École Mgr-A.-M.-Parent are invited to an information meeting to discuss the relocation of the students while damages from last week’s fire are repaired. Meetings will be this Thursday, 27 March 2008 at 7:30 pm.

Parents of École André-Laurendeau are asked to go to the Pratt & Whitney auditorium of cégep Édouard-Montpetit. Parents of students already attending École Mgr-A.-M.-Parent are asked to go instead to the school at the same date and time. Here is the communique from the Commission Scolaire Marie-Victorin, in French:

Repair Your Spouse’s Credit

March 25th, 2008 by Ruby3881

While I was surfing credit web sites I came upon one that deals mostly with low interest credit card services, but there was an article there that caught my eye. I know that often one partner in a couple has had a lot of debt in the past and their credit history is not as good as the other partner’s. This article explains that you can repair the credit by issuing this person a supplementary credit card from the account of the spouse with the better credit. As card payments get made, this information is reported to both partners’ credit history. This can create a positive paper trail for a partner who needs to improve their credit. You can read the article here.

Also on this site you can find a user forum, which is not a common feature on sites specializing in credit services. And for those who have a small e-business, you might be interested in the merchant services for US residents as well.

André-Laurendeau Students Relocated

March 25th, 2008 by Ruby3881

The students of École secondaire André-Laurendeau in St-Hubert will be relocated in two schools until their own school is ready for reoccupation around the end of April. The school is currently closed due to a fire in the building last week.

The Commission Scolaire Marie Victorin would like to underline that the emergency evacuation of the school last week was an example of calm and cooperation. In under 4 minutes, 2350 students and 240 staff left the building and were taken to safety. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Now that the emergency is over and follow-up procedures are being taken, there is a spirit of solidarity within the board. Students in adapted programs will be welcomed at École Notre-Dame as of Monday, 31 March 2008. All other students will be gradually integrated into École Mgr-A.-M.-Parent, beginning next week. The school board is planning a joint meeting of the parents of the schools involved. Please watch for news of the place and time.

The parent hot line is available again, as of noon 25 March 2008. Any parents who have questions can call this number. To read the latest updates please visit the school board’s web site.

Tomatosphere Update

March 25th, 2008 by Ruby3881

I just wanted to let everyone know our “Space Tomatoes” have mostly germinated. We have a few that are lagging behind, and unfortunately the girls left the trays down on the desk long enough for one of our mischief makers to decapitate about three of the sprouts. I doubt those ones will come to anything, but I’ve left them anyway - at least as a reminder that they germinated.

We’ve got a long way to go before these plants even slightly resemble the tomato plants I’m used to buying at the nursery, but I’m keeping the faith! My mother-in-law grows her tomatoes from seeds. She has a lovely balcony garden every summer, and has added bell peppers in the last few years. Hopefully we have a little bit of her “magic touch!”

We’ve had issues with uploading our pics to the computer the last while, so I’m afraid I can’t share any photos at the moment. Once we figure out what the problem is, I hope I can add photos of our wee tomato sprouts for you to see. In the meantime, you can read more about Tomatosphere in this post.
